On her album "Always On My Mind", which will be released on April 28th by Sony Masterworks, Norwegian singer and songwriter Rebekka Bakken transfers her favorite songs into her unmistakable sound cosmos between atmospheric Scandinavian pop and jazz. Together with her band, she lets classics such as "Yesterday" by Lennon/McCartney, "Here Comes The Flood" by Peter Gabriel or "Why" by Annie Lennox resonate in a completely new sound, as does "Break My Heart Again" by Finneas O'Connell, who, along with his sister Billie Eilish, represents a new generation of songwriters. In an intimate band with some of the best session musicians from Norway, the multi-gold award-winning musician and producer explores mystical depths in the songs she has selected. Rebekka Bakken skilfully orchestrates the famous sound clouds of guitarist Eivind Aarset with the atmospheric organ and synthesizer surfaces of Jørn Øien and Torjus Vierli, which are transfigured around piano chords and the bass lines of Tor Egil Kreken and drum beats of Rune Arnesen. This multi-layered soundscape prepares the bed for the breathtakingly soulful voice of Rebekka Bakken, who is compared by some to Janis Joplin because of her intensity. “These songs have 'always been on my mind' and inspired my own songwriting. They are the 'soundtrack of my life' and some of them have stuck with me since my childhood. “I have developed my own voice listening to some of these songs and it is just the right moment to re-interpret them my way,” explains Rebekka Bakken. “Always On My Mind” contains a total of 15 colorful tracks by Elton John, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman and Nick Cave, among others.
